While the Galaxy Z Flip 5 is getting a massive makeover, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 isn't changing much compared to its predecessor, at least according to a new report. Samsung's next-generation flagship foldable phone will come with updated internals and hardware, but it could continue using a design similar to the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
According to tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy Z Fold 5 has the same 6.2-inch cover display as the Galaxy Z Fold 4, including its aspect ratio. If this information is correct, Samsung hasn't listened to its fan base that wants a wider cover display so that it's easier to type and use certain apps. The phone is reportedly just 0.2mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. However, when it's folded, there's no gap between the two halves of the phone, and it is 13.xmm thin, which is 1mm thinner compared to its predecessor.
Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be equipped with Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy processor
Samsung reportedly used a water droplet-shaped hinge that allows the phone to fold completely flat and show almost no visible crease on the main screen. The company also seems to use a new touchscreen technology with its upcoming foldable smartphone. The Galaxy Z Fold 5 reportedly weighs 254g, 9mm lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. The device also features the same Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy chipset used in the Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23+, and Galaxy S23 Ultra, which could translate to a considerable performance jump even under sustained load.
Previous reports indicate that Samsung won't change the rear-facing camera hardware with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. Hence, apart from certain image tuning, we shouldn't expect much to change compared to the Galaxy Z Fold 4. It may offer 8K 30fps video recording using the rear camera, similar to the Galaxy S23 series.
The phone will continue to offer an IPX8 rating for water resistance, but the company has reportedly improved dust resistance. Whether or not it will come with a dust resistance rating remains to be seen. We can expect Samsung to ship the Galaxy Z Fold 5 with Android 13 and a newer version of One UI.
