Samsung will unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Fold 5 at the Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea on July 26, 2023. The main rival to the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will be the Google Pixel Fold, which broke cover last month. By next month, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will face competition from another phone, the OnePlus Open. Yes, that’s right. According to a new leak, OnePlus will launch the company’s first foldable smartphone on August 29, 2023.
On Thursday, Max Jambor, a reliable tipster, backed a report from SmartPrix which claimed that the global unveil of the OnePlus Open will take place on August 29, 2023. With more than one source reporting the same information, it is safe to assume that the rival of the Galaxy Z Fold 5 from OnePlus will be launching by the end of next month.
According to leaks, the OnePlus Open will feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, up to 16GB RAM, and 256GB storage. The cover and foldable screens of the device reportedly measure 6.3 inches and 7.8 inches, respectively. Both screens use OLED panels with a 120Hz refresh rate.
There will be a 48MP primary camera, a 48MP ultrawide camera, and a 64MP telephoto camera at the rear. For selfies, it will come equipped with a 32MP camera on the cover display and a 20MP camera on the foldable screen. The phone will pack a 4,800mAh battery with 67W charging.
The OnePlus Open certainly looks promising on paper. However, OnePlus currently doesn't have enough experience in designing hardware or software for foldable devices. So, at this point, it doesn't look like a serious threat to the Galaxy Z Fold 5.
