Samsung is expected to announce the Galaxy Z Flip 5 and the Galaxy Z Fold 5 in July 2023, which is earlier than expected. The company is reportedly bringing a significant design change with both upcoming phones, and the design change on the Galaxy Z Fold 5 is on the inside, thanks to its waterdrop-shaped hinge. A new report shows how thin and light the Galaxy Z Fold 5 would be.
According to reliable tipster Ice Universe (@UniverseIce), the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will measure 154.9 x 67.1 x 13.4mm when folded and 154.9 x 129.9 x 6.3mm when folded. This makes it 0.2mm shorter, 0.2mm narrower (when unfolded), and 0.2mm thinner than the Galaxy Z Fold 4. More importantly, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 will weigh 254g, which is 9g lighter than the Galaxy Z Fold 4.
New waterdrop-shaped hinge allows Galaxy Z Fold 5 to be thinner
Thanks to its new waterdrop-shaped hinge, the Galaxy Z Fold 5 folds completely flat, leaving no gap between the two halves of the phone. This makes the phone thinner and more resistant to dust, as dust particles have fewer chances of entering the phone. The new hinge also uses a broader radius to bend the foldable OLED screen inside, leading to a less visible crease.
With its completely flat design when folded and a less visible crease while retaining its IPX7 water resistance rating, Samsung offers users what they want the most with the Galaxy Z Fold 5. However, one feature that users have been requesting, but Samsung has reportedly failed to address, is a built-in slot for the S Pen. Maybe we will see it with the Galaxy Z Fold 6.
