Xiaomi unveils its Galaxy Z Fold 8 rival at IFA 2026

More than a month after Samsung announced the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Xiaomi has unveiled its first passport-style foldable phone. The Xiaomi 18 Fold was showcased at the ongoing IFA 2026 event in Berlin, Germany, featuring more rounded corners and an additional rear camera.

The device sports a 5.38-inch cover display and a 7.58-inch inner foldable screen. The inner display includes a punch-hole cutout in the corner for the selfie camera. Xiaomi Dragon Crystal Glass 3.0 protects the cover screen, while the foldable screen utilizes dual-UTG protection.

Because of its rounded corners when open, the phone looks a bit odd when closed, leaving two corners rounded while the remaining two are sharp. In comparison, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 maintains a boxy design whether folded or unfolded.

On the rear, the Xiaomi 18 Fold features a triple-camera setup. This includes a 200MP wide-angle camera with OIS, a 50MP ultrawide camera, and a 50MP telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom. While the Galaxy Z Fold 8 lacks a telephoto camera, the upcoming foldable iPhone is expected to omit one as well.

Under the hood, the device is powered by Xiaomi's in-house second-generation Xring chip, the Xring O3. It reportedly packs 16GB of LPDDR6 RAM and at least 256GB of storage. The phone is expected to house a 6,000mAh battery, which is 1,200mAh larger than the cell found in the Galaxy Z Fold 8.

The foldable supports 67W fast wired charging and 50W fast wireless charging. Additionally, it runs Android 17 (HyperOS 4) out of the box and carries an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

That is all we currently know about the Xiaomi 18 Fold. Further details will be revealed during the phone's official launch in China on September 7, 2026. It remains to be seen whether Xiaomi will bring the device to global markets, but if it does, pricing will be a key factor to watch.
