Samsung is expected to announce three new foldable phones next month, and all of them are expected to offer faster performance and longer battery life. The Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, in particular, are rumored to feature significantly smoother foldable displays.

Galaxy Z Fold 8 could have a smoother and stronger foldable OLED screen

A report from ZDNet Korea claims that the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will use a significantly thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) layer over its foldable OLED screen. It is said to be 60µm thick, which is 33% thicker than the Galaxy Z Fold 7’s 45µm-thick UTG layer. In addition to making the display crease less visible, the thicker UTG could also make the screen stronger and smoother to the touch.

Reports indicate that if the thicker UTG performs well on the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Samsung could adopt it for the Galaxy Z Fold 9 next year.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 reportedly features a passport-style form factor, with a shorter and wider body compared to previous Galaxy Z Fold models. Based on recent reports, the device has a 5.4-inch cover display and a 7.6-inch foldable display, with both OLED panels supporting a variable refresh rate of 1-120Hz.

Its dual-camera setup is said to include a 50MP wide-angle primary camera and a 50MP ultrawide camera. The phone could also feature two 10MP selfie cameras, one for each display. It is powered by a 4,800mAh battery and supports 45W fast charging.
