Galaxy Z Fold 6's inner foldable screen
Apple's first foldable iPhone features several capabilities that Samsung initially introduced in its own foldables but omitted from the Galaxy Z Fold 8. However, taking cues from the iPhone Duo, the South Korean firm might bring back at least one feature it debuted years ago on earlier Galaxy Z Fold devices.
A tipster claims that Samsung has decided to equip the Galaxy Z Fold 9 with an under-display camera (UDC) on its inner foldable screen for the selfie camera. This feature was first introduced with the Galaxy Z Fold 3 in 2021 and remained present through the Galaxy Z Fold 6. Samsung later switched to a standard punch-hole selfie camera on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to improve overall camera quality.
The tipster also claims that Samsung will make major internal upgrades to the Galaxy Z Fold 9 while keeping exterior design changes to a minimum. The upcoming foldable will reportedly measure around 3.9mm thin when unfolded and 7.9mm thin when folded.
Positioned as a direct competitor to the iPhone Duo, the Galaxy Z Fold 9 will most likely feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Extreme Gen 6 processor, a minimum of 12GB of RAM, and at least 256GB of storage.
It would be great to see Samsung also add a telephoto camera, a larger battery, an integrated S Pen stylus, and an IP68 rating to the new device.
