Switching from Tizen to Wear OS has helped Samsung gain many Android ecosystem features and a collection of important apps. Apart from that, users can expect a lot of data management features to come to Wear OS watches in the future. According to a new report, Google is bringing a more complete backup mechanism.

Google has been working on the Wear OS backup feature over the past few months. According to an APK teardown by 9To5Google, the 22.42.12 version of Google Play services offers a clearer look at the feature. It will soon offer a backup of apps, app data, device settings, watch faces, and even tiles and their placement. Device settings will include Wi-Fi network passwords and app permissions.

The report also claims that this Wear OS smartwatch backup feature will be opt-in and will be performed automatically when the smartwatch is connected to a Wi-Fi network and is charging. A user's Google One storage will be used for these backups, and users can either use the Settings app on the smartwatch or the watch's companion smartphone app.

Moreover, the Google Wallet app, which is available for Android smartphones, will offer transit, event, and flight alerts on Wear OS smartwatches. It will display transit activity, notify users when their passes are running low on balance or about to expire, and display saved offers and flight information.

Samsung already offers a complete backup suite for its Galaxy Watch 4 and Galaxy Watch 5 series smartwatches, but if Google brings it directly via Play Services, users will have more choices.
