In November 2024, Google released the beta version of the Google Drive app for Windows 11 for ARM-based personal computers, such as Samsung’s Galaxy Book models with Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. It allowed people with these PCs to access their files on the cloud storage platform right from File Explorer.
Now, after four months, Google has released the stable version of the Google Drive app for Windows 11 ARM64. You can download it by going to Google’s support page, scrolling down to Install and set up Drive for desktop, and clicking on Download for Windows. Surprisingly, the beta as well as the stable version are 313MB in size.
On a related note, Google recently updated the Quick Share app for Windows 11 with support for ARM-based PCs. It allows users with laptops such as the Galaxy Book 4 Edge, which features the Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite SoC, to easily transfer files between their laptop and Galaxy or Android phones/tablets.
With Qualcomm launching the Snapdragon X-series processors, Windows laptops with ARM architecture are gaining more popularity. While they offer great performance and battery life, they are being held up by a lack of native apps. Google seems to be doing its part to solve the problem. We hope other developers also do the same.
