According to the latest reports, Google Maps on Android Auto is all set to receive a couple of updates, one of which will bring a slight design change on how things appear on your car screen. In the latest Google Maps update (independent of the Android Auto version), a new design is rolling out for the Maps app on Android Auto.
This new design adds a sidebar to the Maps app, which contains all of the app's controls. Previously, these controls showed up when you interacted with the map on the right side. However, the new change constantly shows these controls in the sidebar. You'll see zoom controls, change the map orientation, tweak the directions said aloud feature, and access other settings.
The above-mentioned controls now sit on the translucent Google Maps sidebar on the left. Notably, the sidebar shows up when the app is displayed on the screen and not in the dashboard view. As per the users, this new Google Maps sidebar update is visible in Android Auto v10 with Google Maps v11.90. Since this update is not coming with Android Auto, some users (via SmartDroid) have witnessed the change with Android Auto v9.9.
While this may not be a big change per se, it does bring some aesthetic changes to Google Maps, and since they are your best companion when you are on the road in your car, a few changes here and there will improve its overall functionality.
