Google Maps is the go-to navigation app for millions of users across the globe, be it on their smartphones or vehicles. However, one area where Google Maps failed to offer its services, which, surprisingly, Google-owned Waze has done for years, is providing navigation inside tunnels. Thankfully, that is going to change soon.

It is known that Google Maps doesn't work inside tunnels, but with a new update, Google has updated the Maps app, and now you will have GPS navigation even if you are driving inside tunnels. Waze supports this feature using Bluetooth beacons inside tunnels across major cities worldwide, including New York City, Chicago, Paris, Brussels, and more.

The story continues after the video…

The Google Maps tunnel navigation feature isn't live for iOS users

According to recent reports, it appears that Google Maps is finally gaining the support of Bluetooth beacons. A new tunnel navigation feature is now visible inside the app's Settings menu. Notably, this feature is currently available on the Google Maps Android app. You will find the new Google Maps tunnel navigation feature by heading over to Settings > Navigation Settings, under the ‘Driving Options‘ section at the bottom.

Do note that the feature is disabled by default, and you have to manually enable it to enjoy navigation inside tunnels. This feature appeared first for users in October 2023, but it seems that the feature is rolling out widely for everyone.
