Google has announced that it is shutting down the Google Pay app in the US. If you are among those using the Google Pay app on your Galaxy or other Android smartphone, you will not be able to use it starting June 2024. Instead, you need to switch to the Google Wallet app in the future.

Google Pay users in the US need to switch to Google Wallet

The Google Pay app will stop working in the US on June 4, 2024. Users need to switch to the Google Wallet app, which has functionality that is similar to Google Pay. So, you can continue using tap-to-pay in Google Wallet to make store payments. Moreover, the Google Wallet app also has additional features, including the ability to store virtual credit/debit cards, loyalty/membership cards, bus/flight tickets, passes, and more.

Google said it is making three changes that Google Pay users need to be aware of before the June deadline:

  1. Users can continue to check their account balance and transfer funds to their account after June 4, 2024, using the Google Wallet app.
  2. The Google Pay app lists offers and deals that users can take advantage of. A similar functionality is unavailable in Google Wallet, so you must find alternatives, such as Google Search's Deals section.
  3. Users won't be able to send, receive, or request payments from other users using the US version of the Google Pay app starting June 4, 2024.

You can also use Samsung Wallet as a great alternative to Google Pay

Alternatively, if you use a Galaxy smartphone, you can use Samsung Wallet to store credit/debit cards and make mobile payments at stores. The app also lets you store your membership cards, travel tickets, digital keys, and government-issued ID cards. You can also store your vaccination certificates, event passes, gift cards, login credentials for apps and websites, and digital assets (like NFTs) in Samsung Wallet.
