At Google I/O in May this year, Google announced the ‘Ask Photos’ feature for Google Photos. It uses Google Gemini to answer queries about photos in your library.

For example, you can ask it “What’s my license plate number?” The feature will then scan photos in your Google Photos using Google's AI assistant and if there’s a snap of your car in it, it will fetch the number of the license plate from it and give you that information.

Back then, the company didn’t reveal when it would release Ask Photos and since then, we didn't have any information about it. Well, that's finally changing today.

Beta Google app for Android contains hints for Ask Photos' release

Android Authority has found four lines of code in the latest beta version of the Google app for Android (version 15.33.36.29) that mention the Ask Photos extension for Gemini. It suggests that Google could soon roll out Ask Photos in Google Photos.

This feature will not only be very useful but also make Gemini more popular, which could lead to more people subscribing to the paid version of Google’s AI assistant. We hope that Google doesn’t lock Ask Photos behind the paid subscription.
