TL;DR

  • Samsung appears to be preparing the Galaxy SmartTag 3, following a new certification for a device with model number EI-T5900.
  • The new tag is expected to use a squircle design, which would differ from the original SmartTag and SmartTag 2 shapes.
  • Samsung has not announced a launch date, but the certification suggests the device could arrive soon.

We exclusively reported last month that Samsung is working on the next-generation of its Galaxy SmartTag, which will ostensibly be launched as the Galaxy SmartTag 3.

Some new information has now surfaced which suggests that the company is well on its way to launching the Galaxy SmartTag 3 in the near future.

Certification reveals a rather familiar-looking model number

Our information suggested that the Galaxy SmartTag 3 seems to feature a squircle shape. This would match its design with that of One UI icons as well as Samsung's recent smartwatches, including the Galaxy Watch 9.

The design will look fresh in comparison to the earlier models. A rounded square design was opted for the original Galaxy SmartTag while the Galaxy SmartTag 2 had a pill-shaped design.

Korean media is reporting that South Korea's National Radio Research Institute has provided a certification to Samsung for a new device bearing model number EI-T5900. The description mentions a small output wireless device.

While the product name isn't disclosed in the certification, the model number gives it away, as the Galaxy SmartTag 2's model number is EI-T5600.

No word as yet on when Samsung actually intends to launch this device, but given that the stars seem to be aligning, it's likely we see it arrive sooner rather than later.
