At the Unpacked event today, Samsung unveiled the highly leaked and awaited Galaxy S22 series. The series will include the usual set of three devices, i.e., the Galaxy S22, Galaxy S22+, and the Galaxy S22 Ultra.
As you'd expect, a lot of people have been wondering how many major Android OS upgrades Samsung's new flagship series will get. Well, here's your answer.
Galaxy S22 series get four major Android OS upgrades
Samsung used the Galaxy S22 Unpacked event to make a major commitment. It will now provide four years of Android OS upgrades to select devices. The Galaxy S22 series is obviously on that list of devices.
The Galaxy S22 lineup comes with Android 12 out of the box. It's supported until Android 16. Samsung has also confirmed that the series will receive five years of security updates. This certainly puts the Galaxy S22 in a league of its own, software-wise.
As far as security updates are concerned, the Galaxy S22 series devices will pick up security updates until the end of 2027. A few extra security updates could be released for the Galaxy S22 series, provided that Samsung finds some critical bugs in the previously released updates.
There are no other Android flagships in the same league as the Galaxy S22 series from Samsung. This gives the company's latest handsets a great advantage over the competition. As people hold on to their devices for longer, they will certainly appreciate the four-year commitment that Samsung has now made.
