Meta launched Twitter's rival Threads earlier this month, and it got off to a rocketing start. Over 100 million users registered on Threads and started their Threads journey within a week of the app's launch. However, there was one feature that was missing on Threads, i.e., the ability to direct message or DM someone. Thankfully, it won't be too long before you actually get the feature on the platform.
According to a leaked document shared by Business Insider, Instagram could add the direct messaging feature to Threads anytime soon. This is contradictory to what Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri earlier stated that the company doesn’t plan on bringing DMs to Threads soon. Moreover, social media analyst Matt Navara shared the leaked document on Twitter. The document shows the direct messaging feature is ‘Coming Soon' to Threads.
Other important features that will come out in the future include Trends & Topics, Improved Search, and Messaging. All these features are notably set to roll out for Threads based on the feedback it received from the creators on the platform. DMs could be the most requested feature by the creators, which is why Meta is considering adding them soon.
The interesting bit would be how the DMs or direct messaging feature will work on Instagram Threads since Meta is known to allow cross-platform messaging on its apps. There is no clarity on whether the Instagram Threads DM feature will also get cross-platform messaging or not.
