Apple’s current flagship smartphone, the iPhone 15 Pro, has a display with a maximum brightness of 1,000 nits for SDR content and 1,600 nits of HDR content, and a peak brightness of 2,000 nits. While Samsung hasn’t revealed the maximum SDR and HDR brightness of the Galaxy S24’s display, the phone’s screen has a peak brightness of 2,600 nits. So, Samsung is ahead of Apple in this case. Well, a new report from China suggests that’s going to change with Apple’s upcoming flagship smartphone, the iPhone 16 Pro.

On Weibo, a post from Instant Digital claims that the iPhone 16 Pro’s display will have a maximum brightness of 1,200 nits for SDR content and 1,600 nits for HDR content. That means the display of the upcoming phone will have a 20% higher maximum brightness for SDR content than that of the existing one. As such, we reckon that the iPhone 16 Pro’s display will also have a higher peak brightness than that of the iPhone 15 Pro.

The story continues after the video…

Considering that, the iPhone 16 Pro’s display may have a similar or higher peak brightness than that of the Galaxy S24. So, if Samsung wants to stay ahead in the game, the brand will have to offer a display with a higher peak brightness on its upcoming lineup of flagship phones, the Galaxy S25 series, which will be quite a challenging task as Samsung is already pushing the boundaries of OLED displays. Could it use the tandem OLED technology that we saw on Apple's latest iPad Pro models to solve the problem? Well, only time will tell.
