Samsung’s Galaxy S phones have traditionally featured larger batteries than their iPhone counterparts. However, Apple has been closing the gap by increasing battery capacities with each new iPhone generation over the past few years. This year, the iPhone 18 Pro Max could even surpass the Galaxy S27 Ultra in terms of battery capacity.

Recent reports claim that the eSIM-only version of the iPhone 18 Pro Max will feature a 5,425mAh battery. The variant with a physical SIM card slot is reportedly equipped with a slightly smaller 5,235mAh battery.

  • iPhone 18 Pro Max (physical SIM card slot): 5,235mAh battery
  • iPhone 18 Pro Max (eSIM-only): 5,425mAh battery

So far, most reports have suggested that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will feature either a 5,000mAh or a 5,200mAh battery. If that information is accurate, Apple’s flagship smartphone for 2027 will have a higher battery capacity than Samsung’s flagship.

iPhones have traditionally delivered longer battery life than comparable Galaxy phones thanks to Apple’s tighter integration of hardware and software. If the iPhone 18 Pro Max also ends up with a larger battery, it could widen that advantage even further.

Hopefully, Samsung recognizes that its flagship phones are falling behind many of their rivals in battery capacity and battery life, and equips the Galaxy S27 Ultra with a 5,500mAh or 5,600mAh battery to remain competitive, at least on paper.
