iPhone Duo forces Samsung to consider early launch for Galaxy Z TriFold 2

With the recent announcement of the iPhone Duo, Apple has emerged as Samsung's biggest challenger in the foldable smartphone category. So, Samsung has reportedly started considering an earlier-than-planned launch for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2.

Tipster Lanzuk claims that Samsung is considering moving up the launch schedule for the Galaxy Z TriFold 2 and its first slideable OLED device. However, their official debuts might still land in 2027 rather than this year. The next-generation Galaxy Z TriFold will reportedly be lighter, thinner, and more durable than its predecessor while maintaining a similar price point.

The Galaxy Z TriFold was announced in December 2025 and launched in the US in January 2026 with a $2,899 price tag. Samsung reportedly sold it at a loss and in limited numbers, treating it primarily as a technological showcase. It was then discontinued.

The debut of the iPhone Duo has provided much-needed legitimacy to foldable phones, and the market for such devices is expected to see significant growth. A recent report claims that Apple will surpass Samsung to become the world's largest foldable phone maker in 2027, capturing at least 40% of the market share.

Although Samsung's market share is projected to drop from nearly 40% this year to 35% or less in 2027, its total shipments will continue to grow as the market expands. To maintain its competitive edge, the South Korean firm aims to accelerate innovation by introducing new form factors, including slideable screen phones.
