$100 price gap between iPhone Duo and Galaxy Z Fold 8 doesn't tell you the whole story

The Galaxy Z Fold 8's launch price may have been just $100 lower than the iPhone Duo in the US, but that does not tell you the whole story. The phone is already selling for $1,550 in the US via Samsung's website. Furthermore, its repair costs are substantially lower in most global markets.

For example, an iPhone Duo screen replacement costs almost as much as a brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 8 in India.

The iPhone Duo's foldable screen replacement costs INR 149,900 ($1,580) in India, while the Galaxy Z Fold 8's foldable screen costs just INR 35,490 ($375) to replace if damaged. That makes the Galaxy Z Fold 8's screen replacement over four times cheaper than the iPhone Duo's.

In fact, you can buy a brand-new Galaxy Z Fold 8 for as low as INR 170,000 (~$1,790). By spending just $200 more, you can get an entirely new phone instead of replacing the iPhone Duo's screen. We have not even discussed repair costs for other components like the battery, cameras, and the motherboard.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8's back glass and cover replacement is roughly $200 cheaper, while its battery costs $238 less to replace. Replacing the motherboard on Samsung's foldable costs $1,600 less than on the iPhone Duo. For that amount of money, you could buy a brand-new Galaxy S26 Ultra.
