Samsung always comes with more than a few goodies at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas and it's no different this year. The company has refreshed its Odyssey lineup of gaming monitors. There's a new model in the lineup that's beyond bonkers.
That's in addition to the evolutionary upgrades that we've come to expect this year. The Samsung Odyssey 2023 monitor lineup offers options for customers across the price spectrum without compromising on sheer visual pleasure.
Samsung's flagship gaming monitor for 2023 is out of this world
The Odyssey Neo G9 is the latest addition to Samsung's gaming monitor lineup. It's quite like the 55-inch Odyssey Ark that the company launched yesterday, only that it's not in portrait mode.
The Odyssey Neo G9 has a 57-inch super ultra-wide curved display with a 7,680×2,160 resolution (this classifies as 8K) and a 32:9 aspect ratio and a 240Hz refresh rate. This is the first time that figures like these have been present in one screen.
The 1000R curved screen relies on quantum mini LED tech and boasts VESA Display HDR 1000 specification. In simple words, this means that the monitor is capable of displaying graphics in incredible detail in any gaming environment.
It's also the world's first monitor to support DisplayPort 2.1. This tech transfers data at nearly twice as fast as DisplayPort 1.4, the standard that was used previously. The new standard also supports lossless industry-standard Display Stream Compression to limit distortion.
Samsung has still kept much of the specifics about this monitor under the wraps. No pricing information has been confirmed at this point in time. We can expect to hear more about it in the coming months.
Odyssey OLED G9 delivers OLED perfection for gamers
Samsung may not be bullish about OLED TVs but it has no problem throwing its hat in the ring for OLED gaming monitors. The new Odyssey OLED G9 has a 49-inch dual quad-HD 1800R curved display with a 32:9 aspect ratio. The monitor relies on Samsung's quantum dot OLED technology to allow for a “near-infinite” color contrast ratio.
With this tech, each pixel is illuminated separately on the OLED screen without requiring a backlight. This delivers a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio while retaining true RGB and true black without needing color filters. The gaming credentials are further backed up with a 0.1ms response time and a 240Hz refresh rate.
The monitor is equipped with Samsung's Smart Hub platform which enables users to access apps and services like YouTube, Netflix, and Amazon Prime Video. The Samsung Gaming Hub, a service that lets users stream games from the likes of Xbox and NVIDIA GeForce Now, is onboard as well.
Samsung hasn't confirmed how much the Odyssey OLED G9 is going to cost. The company has only shown off the monitor at CES 2023. We'll likely hear more specifics in the coming months.
