Leaked Galaxy S25+ images reveal a mysterious new detail

We're about a month or so from the official launch of Samsung's Galaxy S25 series. It goes without saying that we'll be seeing a lot of leaks in the coming days. Some leaked images of the US-bound Galaxy S25+ have surfaced online today, potentially giving us a good look at one of the upcoming flagship phones.

One of the images reveals a new detail on the right bezel of the device, below where you normally find the power and volume buttons. It seems like another button at first glance, but it turns out this might be a dedicated mmWave antenna.

Is this the end of the physical SIM slot in the US?

The antenna would ostensibly improve 5G mmWave connectivity for the Galaxy S25 series on mobile networks in the US. These are high-bandwidth, low-latency networks that use radio frequency signals between the 24GHz and 100Ghz spectrum. What that means in simple terms is that the Galaxy S25 series will offer much faster data speeds.

Many carriers across the globe have rolled out support for mmWave on their mobile networks. Most have utilized the network equipment Samsung has made to enable this capability. Apple's iPhones have had mmWave support for a few years now as well.

Samsung might also go Apple's way and remove the physical SIM slot from US Galaxy S25 models. All Apple phones since the iPhone 14 have been eSIM only, and this leak does suggest the possibility that we might be heading in a similar direction for Samsung's flagship, at least in the United States.

Looking at this leaked image, the assumption could also be made that Samsung might be inspired by the new camera control button Apple introduced with the iPhone 16 last year, but there's nothing to suggest that as yet, even though it looks strikingly similar.
