It's going to be a while before we see Samsung unveil the Galaxy Z Flip 4. The company's next foldable smartphones aren't expected to arrive before the second half of this year. However, reports have now started surfacing about the various components that will be used for them.

The latest out of South Korea suggests that Samsung is looking to change its battery supplier for the Galaxy Z Flip 4. It's claimed that the battery for Samsung's next clamshell foldable will be supplied by LG Energy Solution.

Galaxy Z Flip 4 battery may be sourced from LG

Even if this might surprising, given that LG is one of Samsung's biggest competitors in South Korea, the two companies often work together. Samsung has previously used LG Energy Solution's batteries for devices in the Galaxy S and Galaxy Note series.

It's now expected to source LG Energy Solution's small pouch-type battery for the Galaxy Z Flip 4. Initially, all batteries for the company's foldable smartphones were supplied by Samsung SDI.

Since Samsung's previous experience with using LG batteries has been good and they have received a high evaluation, the company is reportedly willing to source batteries for the Galaxy Z Flip 4 as well.

Industry watchers view this as a move to diversify the supply chain and achieve cost reduction. This will ultimately enable Samsung to increase its profit margins on the device. Whether that will result in a lower price tag than the $999 Galaxy Z Flip 3 remains to be seen.
