TL;DR

  • Samsung raised Galaxy Z Fold 8, Fold 8 Ultra, and Flip 8 prices in most markets, but South Korea remains the exception.
  • South Korean pricing is still the lowest, with the Fold 8 starting at 2.28 million won and the Flip 8 at 1.68 million won.
  • Samsung says it wants to keep Korean prices competitive, though it may adjust them later if cost pressures keep rising.

Samsung has implemented price hikes for the Galaxy Z Fold 8, Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra, and the Galaxy Z Flip 8 across all markets expect one: South Korea.

The company has continued to offer the lowest pricing for its foldables in its home country and that doesn't change with the newest lineup.

Pricing could be changed down the line

“Our aim is to offer Korean consumers the most competitive prices anywhere in the world, and we will do our utmost to keep it that way,” TM Roh, Samsung CEO and head of its mobile division, told reporters at a press talk following yesterday's Unpacked event.

Pricing for the Galaxy Z Fold 8 starts at 2.28 million won in South Korea, which is roughly $1,550. Samsung is charging $1,899 before tax for this device in the United States.

The Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra and Galaxy Z Flip 8 are priced at 2.58 million won and 1.68 million won in South Korea, roughly $1,756 and $1,143, compared to $2,199 and $1,199 in the United States.

The price differential for South Korea is larger than it was for last year's foldables, so despite mounting cost pressures that have forced it to raise prices in every other market, Samsung is actually offering local customers larger discounts compared to the US prices.

Roh did caution that rising cost pressures beyond what Samsung can manage may eventually be reflected in these prices, but promised that the company would make efforts to reduce the burden on buyers.

Samsung has revised prices locally before. Earlier this year, it increased prices for some variants of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7.
