This brings a much-needed UI overhaul to one of Samsung's most important apps.

Samsung updated the UI design language of almost all stock One UI apps with One UI 8.0 and One UI 8.5. However, SmartThings did not receive those improvements.
We recently explained why SmartThings is the app that needs Samsung's attention the most, and the company appears to have listened.
It is working on a major update for the SmartThings app, and we can now offer an exclusive look at the upcoming design.
An upcoming SmartThings update for Android brings the same pill-shaped floating tab bar that Samsung introduced in other One UI apps with One UI 8.0 and One UI 8.5. The tab bar has five sections: Home, Devices, Life, Routines, and Menu.

The Home screen's background will change dynamically based on the selected location. It works like a live wallpaper, changing its colors to reflect the time of day, including morning, daytime, evening, and night.
The app will offer nine preloaded live wallpapers, and you can also use a custom image from your device's gallery or camera. You can set a different wallpaper for each location, such as your home or your parents' home.

The Home tab will display several suggestions at the top of the screen through a SmartThings Now card. This card can suggest SmartThings features that you have not tried yet. You can enable or disable the SmartThings Now card.
The app will offer three types of widgets: Device Control, Screen Device Control, and Routines.

Not much has changed in the Devices tab aside from its dynamic background. Switching between rooms works the same way as before. The Life section includes lifestyle-related features such as Clothing Care, Energy, Food, Home Care, and Music Sync. You can rearrange these cards based on your preferences.

The Routines tab is divided into two sections: Discover and My Routines. My Routines displays the automations you have created, while Discover shows automations that are popular with other SmartThings users.

It is not clear exactly when the redesigned app will be released. But since its design language matches One UI 9.0, we expect the update to arrive after the stable One UI 9.0 rollout begins for eligible Galaxy phones.
