In October 2024, MediaTek launched the Dimensity 9400, its flagship chipset for mobile devices. Despite featuring all big CPU cores, it fell behind the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite in many aspects. That means it is no match for the Galaxy S25 series' Snapdragon 8 Elite for Galaxy, which is even faster than the standard version. Well, MediaTek has now launched the Dimensity 9400+.
As the name suggests, the Dimensity 9400+ is a successor to the Dimensity 9400 from last year, replacing it as the brand’s flagship SoC. It offers five main improvements over the previous one, and sadly, they aren’t significant. While it is too early to say if those minor improvements can get it closer to Galaxy S25's performance, we can certainly take a look at its specifications.
MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ vs. MediaTek Dimensity 9400
First, while the Dimensity 9400 has a Cortex-X925 prime CPU core clocked at 3.62GHz, the Dimensity 9400+ has a Cortex-X925 prime CPU core clocked at 3.73GHz. Second, its Immortalis-G925MC12 GPU features MediaTek Frame Rate Converter (MFRC) 2.0+, which offers 40% power savings. Third, its MediaTek NPU 890 supports Speculative Decoding+, which offers 20% faster agentic AI performance.
Fourth, the Dimensity 9400+ offers a longer Bluetooth range compared to Dimensity 9400. MediaTek says that it works up to 10KM “in line of sight.” Fifth, the latest chipset supports new BeiDou satellite information, which offers 33% faster Time To First Fix (TTFF) without the cellular network. MediaTek says, “The first smartphones powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 9400+ will be available in the market this month.”
