Motorola’s answer to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 leaks in official renders

Samsung is not the only foldable flip phone manufacturer to want to tweak its cover display design later this year. Motorola is preparing its own answer to the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5, and it's called the Razr 40 Ultra. This device has now leaked in over a dozen high-quality official renders (via @evleaks), and it looks like it might have a chance to rival the Z Flip.

The most striking thing about the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra is its external display, which covers almost one-half of the phone. But unlike the upcoming Galaxy Z Flip 5, which has a folder-shaped display design around the cameras, the Razr 40 Ultra's cover screen embraces the dual-shooter setup, incorporating it and the LED flash using circular cutouts. They may be the largest we've seen, and Samsung never went this far with its Infinity-O design.

What else does the Motorola Razr 40 Ultra offer?

Rumors suggest that Motorola's answer to the Galaxy Z Flip 5 has a 6.7-inch foldable AMOLED display with a high refresh rate of 144Hz — 24 more Hz than what the Z Flip 5 supposedly has. The outer screen should have a 3.5-inch diagonal and a resolution of 1056 x 1066.

Other rumored specs include the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 SoC, 128, 256, and 512GB storage options, 8/12GB of RAM, and a side-mounted fingerprint sensor. The device may be powered by a 3,640 mAh dual battery with 33W charging capabilities.

Those two cameras on the cover display are said to have 12MP (wide) and 13MP (ultrawide) resolutions, while the selfie camera embedded in the foldable display might have a 32MP resolution.

Nobody but Motorola knows when exactly the Razr 40 Ultra will be released. But it looks like a direct competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip 5, the latter of which Samsung might unveil in late July or early August. The Korean tech giant may host its next Unpacked event earlier than usual, and rumors also say that the event may take place in Busan rather than a major city in Europe or the USA.
