Last year, Google announced that it would bring Nearby Share to Windows operating systems, allowing users to wirelessly and seamlessly share files from their Android devices to Windows computers and vice versa. Earlier this year, the beta version of Nearby Share was released.

Today, Google has released the stable version of Nearby Share for Windows operating systems. Apart from sharing documents, images, videos, and other files, you can even share text from Galaxy phones and tablets. The app is compatible with computers running Windows 10 or Windows 11. However, sadly, the app doesn't support Windows computers that use ARM-based processors like the Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2.

Google says Nearby Share For Windows is already installed on 1.7 million computers, and more than 50 million files have been shared across devices.

The stable version of Nearby Share For Windows brings a couple of new features. The app now shows a progress bar along with an estimated time for the transfer to complete, which is useful when sharing large files. Moreover, the app now shows an image preview of the file received in the notifications area of Windows, which helps users in knowing if a correct file has been received.

Google also announced that it is working with several PC makers to pre-install Nearby Share For Windows on their computers. Among the list of partners is HP. The company's new HP Dragonfly Pro laptop will be the first Windows laptop to come with Nearby Share pre-installed. More functionalities will come to the app in the future.
