Samsung has started releasing a new security update for Galaxy devices. The March 2023 security patch, which Samsung detailed earlier today, is now available for the unlocked, international Galaxy S21 models.
The update can be identified by firmware version G99xBXXS6EWBB. The latter confirms that this is a routine security patch rather than a feature update. In other words, don't expect new features and massive changes, even though your phone may or may not receive some under-the-hood tweaks for better performance and stability.
As detailed earlier today, the March 2023 security patch includes dozens of security bug fixes related to Google's Android OS and roughly a dozen fixes concerning Samsung's own software. Some vulnerabilities affect Galaxy devices equipped with the Exynos 2100 SoC, which the Galaxy S21 series in Europe and other markets has.
With that in mind, it's probably wise to get this new update running on your Galaxy S21, Galaxy S21+, and Galaxy S21 Ultra as soon as possible. You can wait for the update notification to arrive, or you can try triggering the update by opening the Settings app on the phone, accessing “Software update,” and tapping “Download and install.” Alternatively, if you prefer manual updates via a PC, you can download the official firmware files from our website.
Thanks for the tip, Stefan!
