Samsung released the original Galaxy SmartTag in 2021, but the company is preparing to release a sequel this year. Our exclusive report concerning Samsung's plans for the next-generation Galaxy SmartTag has now been corroborated by the Korean media, and more details regarding the capabilities of the next SmartTag have emerged.
In addition, this new report states that the 2nd-generation Galaxy SmartTag will be announced alongside the Galaxy Watch 6, the Galaxy Z Fold and Z Flip 5, and, more surprisingly, the Galaxy Buds 3 later this year. So far, we haven't heard much about the Galaxy Buds 3, but apparently, a new pair of earbuds will be released this year. (via Naver)
The Galaxy Watch 6, on the other hand (no pun intended), will suposedly be equipped with a larger display than the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and boast a higher resolution. This larger panel could also have curved edges.
Next-gen Galaxy SmartTag improves range and connectivity features
Industry insiders cited in the new report say that Samsung will improve several specs for the next-gen Galaxy SmartTag, including its wireless range. It will have better signal, and its battery will last longer.
Furthermore, the SmartTag 2 (or whatever Samsung ends up calling it) will benefit from better security features designed to prevent unauthorized tracking.
And as if these connectivity, security, and battery life improvements weren't enough, Samsung will also reportedly try to expand upon the Galaxy SmartTag's functionality by integrating the device with SmartThings in new and clever ways. The next-gen SmartTag may be able to perform tasks such as activating SmartThings devices, dimming lights, or controlling smart TVs.
Samsung should announce the second-generation Galaxy SmartTag at the next major Unpacked event, which should take place in August-September. The tag could be offered as a pre-order bonus for devices like the Galaxy Z Fold 5, Galaxy Z Flip 5, and Galaxy Tab S9 series.
