AI, generative AI, and LLM (Large Language Models) are the latest buzzwords in the tech world, as more device manufacturers and software developers are jumping on the bandwagon. Not to be outdone by Google and Samsung, Apple is reportedly working on generative AI features for its next version of iOS and the next-gen iPhone series.

Samsung kicked off 2024 with a big focus on AI, and the Galaxy S24, soon to be unveiled at Unpacked on January 17, will be the company's first ‘AI phone.' Precisely what this means remains to be seen, but the Galaxy S24 is expected to feature cleverer AI features and onboard LLM capabilities.

Meanwhile, Google continues developing its Bard LLM, and the upcoming Galaxy S24 series may borrow features from Bard.

Not to be outdone by its competitors, Apple is said to be working on new AI features for its upcoming mobile products.

Apple to reveal more AI stuff at WWDC this summer

According to Bloomberg (via Apple Insider), Apple intends to reveal its latest AI-based features for iOS 18 at WWDC in June.

Reportedly, Apple's AI will boast tools that allow users to create apps in Xcode, auto-summarize and auto-complete tools in apps like Pages and Keynote, and some AI elements in Apple Music for automatic playlist creation.

In addition, Apple's digital assistant, Siri, will reportedly go through a “big overhaul.” Siri will supposedly boast generative AI capabilities by the end of the year.

With the two largest phone makers — Samsung and Apple — embracing AI, it looks like the mobile market might be entering a new era, and mere hardware upgrades every year will no longer be enough to stand out.
