One UI 7.0 is getting rid of the Samsung DeX app for Windows

One UI 7.0 is bringing some significant changes for Samsung's mobile operating system. While the company itself hasn't revealed many details about it so far, a lot of information has been leaked so far, including screenshots that have revealed some for the design changes.

Samsung's also making some changes that will remove compatibility for certain features. As it turns out, the Samsung DeX app for Windows has found itself on the list of the things on the chopping block.

Standalone DeX functionality remains unaffected

The Samsung DeX app enabled users to mirror their mobile device's screen on their Windows PC. They could also use the app to seamlessly drag and drop files between the devices. This is different from the standalone DeX functionality on its phones and tablets that powers a PC-like interface and support input devices like keyboard and mice.

AndroidAuthority has spotted an interesting update on Samsung UK's website. The DeX page mentions at the very bottom that the DeX app for Windows will be discounted. “The DeX for PC on Windows OS will end support from One UI 7 version. We encourage customers to connect mobile phone and PC through the Link to Windows feature,” it says.

This is simply a matter of Samsung simplifying offerings, because Microsoft has been working on similar functionality for a while now, one that's not just compatible with Samsung phones but with other Android-powered devices as well. Link to Windows offers the same feature set and is obviously far more optimized.

This isn't the only software element that's being removed from the new iteration. It has also emerged that One UI 7.0 won't allow Edge Panel downloads from the Galaxy Store. Perhaps Samsung has taken a long, hard look at the things that weren't being used at any major scale and decided to cut them in the interest of simplicity. That's something we can get behind.
