One UI 7 makes one useful Camera Assistant feature unnecessary

Samsung is revamping the camera interface on Galaxy smartphones with Android 15 and One UI 7, and in the process, the company has made one feature of the extremely useful Camera Assistant app unnecessary.

Back in 2022, Samsung launched the Camera Assistant app for flagship and select mid-range smartphones that added some advanced settings and tweaks that weren't available in the stock camera app out of the box. Among those tweaks was the option to add persistent buttons for additional zoom levels, such as 2x and 100x, to the viewfinder.

One UI 7 has easier and improved zoom control in various camera modes

Starting with One UI 7, those additional zoom levels are enabled by default and no longer require the Camera Assistant app. On a Galaxy S24 Ultra, you will see the 0.6x, 1x, 2x, 3x, 5x, and 10x buttons at all times, and tapping any of them will bring up the 30x and 100x buttons as well.

On a Galaxy S24 or S24+, you get 0.6x, 1x, 2x, and 3x by default and can tap them to bring up the 10x, 20x, and 30x buttons. As before, long pressing any zoom button will bring up a slider that lets you manually increase and decrease magnification to any value between the supported zoom range of your device.

This change applies to both the photo and video modes, though the latter will continue to have a much smaller maximum zoom level. Samsung has also improved the zoom control in the Pro video mode. You can now control the zoom speed for smoother transitions, as Samsung puts it. This is not the case for the standard video recording mode, though that may change later as One UI 7 is still in development.

Better zoom control isn't the only change that's coming to the Samsung camera app with One UI 7. Samsung has also redesigned the UI to bring all important controls to the bottom of the screen for easier one-handed access. This extends to the mode selection menu. You now see all the different modes in the bottom half of the screen.
