OPPO recently teased its first foldable smartphone, the OPPO Find N. The device will be fully unveiled tomorrow at the OPPO Inno Day 2021 event. However, most features of the upcoming device have been leaked already, including the display's specifications and manufacturer. Can you guess who made the OPPO Find N's foldable display?
Well, it's none other than Samsung Display. A report from TheElec states that the foldable display on the OPPO Find N is made by Samsung's display manufacturing arm. The smartphone has a 7.1-inch internal display with an LTPO OLED panel and a 120Hz variable refresh rate. Moreover, the display is protected using Samsung's UTG (Ultra Thin Glass) protection layer for scratch and drop resistance.
The cover display on the OPPO Find N uses a 5.45-inch OLED panel made by Chinese firm BOE (Beijing Oriental Electronics), and it could be protected using Corning's Gorilla Glass.
The OPPO Find N is the first foldable smartphone from Chinese brands to use UTG. Other devices, including the Huawei Mate X2 and the Xiaomi Mi MIX Fold, use polyimide film instead of glass. It is being reported that Xiaomi will switch to Samsung Display's 8.01-inch foldable panel and UTG for the Mi MIX Fold 2's internal screen. For the external display, it could use BOE's 6.52-inch screen.
Vivo is considering using Samsung Display's foldable display panel for its upcoming foldable smartphone. On the other hand, HONOR could use BOE's displays on its foldable smartphone. Huawei reportedly wanted to use Samsung Display's foldable panel, but the plan was scrapped earlier this year.
