We're less than a week into the new year, and Samsung is already rolling out the January 2023 security patch. The Galaxy Note 10 was the first to receive the update a couple of days ago, and the journey continued with the Galaxy S21 and the Galaxy A73. Now the company has turned its attention towards foldable phones. The original Galaxy Z Flip is the first to get a hold of the latest security patch for 2023.
Samsung has released the update for the LTE and 5G models alike. For now, the Galaxy Z Flip (SM-F700F) has access to the January 2023 security patch in Italy, where customers can identify the update by firmware version F700FXXSAIVL3.
Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Flip 5G (SM-F707B) has gained access to the latest update in more regions, including Australia, Baltic countries, the Netherlands, Spain, Romania, Switzerland, Portugal, Hungary, and the UK. In these cases, the January 2023 update carries firmware version F707BXXS7IVL1. As usual, the firmware's availability will continue to expand in more regions throughout the month (and possibly onward).
The latest updates contain just the latest security patch and no new features. Samsung's security bulletin mentions no critical vulnerability fixes for Android OS. In terms of SVEs, the changelog for January 2023 states that vulnerabilities concerning Secure Folder, NFC, and WifiService – among others — were addressed.
Galaxy Z Flip users in the regions mentioned above should be able to download the January 2023 security patch via the Settings app by navigating to “Software update” and tapping “Download and install.” Alternatively, Z Flip owners who prefer manual updates using their PCs can download the official Samsung firmware files from our website.
