Four years after its launch, Samsung has ended software support for the original Galaxy Z Flip. Samsung's first clamshell foldable phone will not get any new software updates going forward.
This means the Galaxy Z Flip will run Android 12 for the rest of its days and will remain on the January 2024 security patch, though it's possible Samsung will push at least one more security update before ending support for good.
The Galaxy Z Flip 5G will continue to get quarterly security updates
Samsung is only ending support for the LTE version of the Galaxy Z Flip. The Galaxy Z Flip 5G, which launched six months after the LTE model, is still eligible for quarterly security updates and will remain eligible for another six months or so.
It's worth mentioning that the Galaxy Z Flip is not getting the same courtesy as other flagship phones Samsung launched back in 2020. The Galaxy S20 series will be getting a fifth year of updates even though it is only eligible for four years of updates. That likely has to do with the fact that Samsung's foldable phones see far fewer sales, which was especially true for the first few models.
