Pixel 8 and 8 Pro users bring display defect to light

The Google Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro have been on the market for a little over a month, and numerous users are now spotting display issues that may point to poor quality control or a design flaw.

Pixel 8 users took to Reddit and the Pixel Phone forums to describe the issues with photos attached (via WCCFTech). The problem consists of unusual display bumps that form near the edge of the panel, usually at the top of the screen.

The bumps look as if something from behind the panel is poking into the display. It's unclear if the phone's internal design is the cause of the problem, but many users describe the issue as such.

Are the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro flawed?

It could be that something inside the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro phones presses against the panel due to incorrect tolerances, and in time, this flawed design leads to visible bumps in the display.

However, there's no official word on the matter from Google. And it's not very clear if these affected Pixel 8 phones have had these display bumps out-of-the-box or if the defects worsened over time.

The good news is that many users say they were able to get a replacement Pixel 8 from Google. Nevertheless, this solution might not be as straightforward for Pixel 8 buyers in markets where Google doesn't have an online hardware store.

Google to follow Samsung’s lead by using custom chips for smartwatches

Samsung didn't depend on Qualcomm and developed in-house Exynos chips for Galaxy Watches. While Google switched from Exynos to Snapdragon chips for second and third-generation Pixel Watches, it could switch to in-house chips in […]
