Qualcomm has launched a new chipset for smartphones, the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3. It is a successor to the Snapdragon 6 Gen 1 and sits between the Snapdragon 6s Gen 3 and the Snapdragon 7s Gen 2. The San Diego-based chipmaker didn’t make any announcement about launching the new chipset. Instead, it introduced the chip by silently listing it on the official website. Let’s take a look at what it offers.
The Snapdragon 6 Gen 3 is made on a 4nm fabrication process. It features an octa-core CPU with 4x 2.4GHz Cortex-A78 and 4x 1.8GHz Cortex-A55. On the graphics front, it has the Adreno 710 GPU that can run displays with Full HD+ resolution at up to 120Hz. It supports up to LPDRR5 3,200MHz memory. It has Spectra Triple ISP that supports a 200MP camera or capture from three lower-resolution cameras at once. Connectivity options include dual-SIM 5G, Wi-Fi 6E, and Bluetooth 5.2.

Going by the specs, it looks like this SoC seems like a direct competitor to Samsung's Exynos 1480. Currently, there’s no information about when Qualcomm will start shipping the Snapdragon 6 Gen 3, which will be the first phone to use it and when will that device arrive. Hopefully, we will get to know those details in the next few weeks. On a related note, Samsung is not likely to use this SoC for its phones or tablets as it has not launched devices with the Snapdragon 6 Series chipsets in quite a while.
