Qualcomm has launched a new flagship chipset for XR devices, the Snapdragon Reality Elite, a successor to the Snapdragon XR2+ Gen 2 found in Samsung’s Galaxy XR.
Compared to the previous SoC, the new processor offers 30% higher CPU, 60% better GPU, and 160% improved NPU performance. Along with that, it runs up to 12 degrees cooler and consumes 20% lower power for the same workload, which is staggering.

The Snapdragon Reality Elite features “4 + 2 performance” Kryo CPU cores that can go up to 2.9GHz. While it uses an Adreno GPU and has 12MB of memory, the brand hasn’t revealed the exact model number. According to the company, the NPU offers 48 TOPS AI performance. The chipset has 8MB cache and supports LPDDR5 memory up to 4.2GHz. As for storage, it is compatible with UFS 4.0, SD 3.0/SDExpress 7.0.
According to the American tech giant, the chipset can run two displays with 4.4K resolution (one for each eye) at 90 frames per second. Its Spectra ISP supports up to 12 concurrent cameras. As for the connectivity, the SoC features Qualcomm FastConnect 7800 Mobile Connectivity System (modem), offering support for WiFi 7 and Bluetooth 6.0. For wired connectivity, it supports two USB 3.1 ports and “3x PCIe“.
The first device to use the Qualcomm Snapdragon Reality Elite will be the XREAL Project Aura, a pair of XR smart glasses running Android XR.
Samsung may use the new chipset for its upcoming XR headsets and smart glasses (not the smart glasses that the brand unveiled last month).
