Several reports claim that Samsung will bring back Exynos chips to its high-end phones with the Galaxy S24 series. Some Galaxy S24 series phones will reportedly be equipped with the Exynos 2400 processor. A year later, Samsung could continue to use customized Snapdragon chips, which could also be manufactured by Samsung Foundry.

Galaxy S25's Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 For Galaxy processor could be made by Samsung Foundry's 3nm GAP process

According to tipster Revegnus (@Tech_Reve), the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 will be made using TSMC's 3nm (N3E) process, while the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 For Galaxy will be fabricated using Samsung Foundry's 3nm GAP (3GAP) process. If this information is accurate, Samsung Foundry's 3nm node could finally be comparable to TSMC's 3nm process in terms of performance and efficiency. Please take this information with a pound of salt, as we are two years away from the Galaxy S25, and things will only get clear some time in late 2024.

This would be the first time in a long time a company makes the same chip using two different suppliers, similar to what Apple did with the iPhone 6s' A9 processor. Some A9 chips were made using Samsung's 14nm process, while others were fabricated using TSMC's 16nm process. While the Samsung-made A9 chip was smaller in size, TSMC-made chips offered slightly higher power efficiency.

The Snapdragon 8 Gen 4 For Galaxy chip could be joined by Samsung's much-rumored “dream chip” in some Galaxy S25 devices. Both chips are expected to be made using Samsung Foundry's 3nm GAP process and could offer similar performance levels. Differences will always be there, but it is up to Samsung to see that the differences are negligible, especially regarding power consumption.

Google to follow Samsung’s lead by using custom chips for smartwatches

Qualcomm was way too slow in bringing advanced chips for smartwatches, and that is when Apple took a huge leap forward. Samsung didn't depend on Qualcomm and developed in-house Exynos chips for Galaxy Watches. While Google switched from Exynos to Snapdragon chips for second and third-generation Pixel Watches, it could switch to in-house chips in […]
