Samsung is the best manufacturer out there as far as offering water resistance on smartphones is concerned. The company's flagship Galaxy S and Note phones have had water and dust resistance for more than half a decade, and so have some of its mid-range phones since 2021. And if that isn't enough, Samsung last two generations of foldable phones have also been certified for protection against water ingress, putting it well ahead of the competition.
It's only Samsung's mainstream tablets that don't currently come equipped with water and dust resistance, something we have long been unhappy about, especially as prices for the company's flagship tablets continue to increase. Samsung does have an ‘Active' range of tablets that has a water and dust resistant model, but it's not available everywhere and has unimpressive hardware specs.
The Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, and S9 Ultra will be water and dust resistant
Well, things are finally changing this year with the upcoming Galaxy Tab S9 series of tablets: as we exclusively reported a couple of months back, the Galaxy Tab S9, S9+, and S9 Ultra will be water and dust resistant. The tablets will get IP67 certification like Samsung's mid-range phones. It's a step below the IP68 certification found on Samsung's non-folding flagship phones, but we don't think that makes a huge difference.
Of course, what will make a difference is the asking price for Samsung's new tablets. Will the addition of protection from the elements result in a notable price markup? That is certainly a likely outcome. Perhaps Samsung could bring water and dust resistance to the next Fan Edition tablet(s) for those on a budget? We'll have to wait and seee, though for now we're just glad that one of our desired upgrades for Galaxy tablets is finally becoming a reality.
