Samsung has announced three new monitors ahead of its CES 2022 event. The Odyssey Neo G8 is the world's first 4K monitor with a 240Hz refresh rate. The new lineup also includes the Smart Monitor M8, which has a built-in webcam, and the High Resolution Monitor S8.
The Odyssey Neo G8 (G85NB), similar to the Odyssey Neo G9, uses a MiniLED display for impressive blacks and up to 2,000 nits of peak brightness. It has a 240Hz refresh rate, 1ms grey-to-grey response time, a 1,000,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, and full-array local dimming. The monitor supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro, Nvidia G-Sync, and HDR10+.
The new gaming monitor is one step below Samsung's flagship Odyssey Neo G9, which offers a 5K ultrawide display. However, the Odyssey Neo G8 still provides the most important bits from the flagship model, including extremely high brightness levels, HDR, and deep blacks with FALD (Full-Array Local Dimming). It also features some RGB bling on the rear and multiple I/O ports.
The Smart Monitor M8 (M80B), which is an upgrade over 2020's Smart Monitor M7, comes with a built-in webcam and a slimmer design. It is just 11.4mm thin, which is 25% slimmer than the previous monitor. It also features a movable magnetic webcam called SlimFit Cam, which makes video meetings hassle-free and supports most video calling solutions. It also comes with a remote controller, which now comes in white to match the new Warm White variant.
It has a QLED display with 4K resolution, offering 1.07 billion colors, 400 nits peak brightness, HDR10+, and 99% sRGB color gamut coverage. Thanks to the Tizen OS, it has access to various media streaming apps like Apple Music, Apple TV+, Disney+, Netflix, Prime Video, YouTube, and YouTube TV. It has a built-in USB hub and stereo speakers. It has Wi-Fi and AirPlay 2 as well. It also acts as a SmartThings Hub so you can control compatible smart home products.
The Smart Monitor M8 is perfect for work-from-home setups, especially those who want their monitor to double up as a TV.
The High Resolution Monitor S8 (S80PB) comes in 27-inch and 32-inch versions. It has 4K resolution, DisplayHDR 600 certification (peak brightness of 600 nits), and 98% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. It has a matte display, which keeps it free from glare and reflections. The monitor has a stand that allows height adjustments as well as tilt, swivel, and pivot.
Samsung has also included a LAN port and a USB Type-C port (which supports 90W USB PD charging), allowing users to create a docking station with just one cable.
Hyesung Ha, Executive Vice President of Visual Display Business at Samsung Electronics, said, “Samsung's 2022 lineup represents the next generation in monitor innovation with offerings that meet the demands of competitive gamers, professional designers and everyone in between. As the work and entertainment worlds continue to evolve, we are proud to deliver monitors that boost users' experiences from the comfort of their homes.”
The South Korean firm hasn't revealed the pricing or availability of these new monitors, but we expect them to go on sale in select markets in Q1 2022.
