Samsung Display took a win earlier this week as its 4K OLED displays for laptops have received two Premium Display certificates from Société Générale de Surveillance. The panels were rigorously tested and they've impressed the SGS jury with fast 0.2ms response time, unsurpassed HDR True Black 0.0001 nit color level, and DCI P3 100-percent color range.

The panels have been awarded the Premium Display certificates for two categories, namely Content Creation and Gaming.

The improved color accuracy compared to conventional LCDs makes these panels a great choice for content creators, while the fast response time greatly benefits gaming as it reduces the delay between player input and what's shown on the screen.

Samsung plans to release FHD OLED laptop displays this year

Samsung Display is the only manufacturer of OLED panels for laptops in the world at the time of this writing. Its 13.3-inch and 15.6-inch 4K OLED panels have found their way into various products including laptops manufactured by HP, Alienware, and Razer.

The company is in a unique position and wants to keep the momentum going by releasing new FHD models this year. A lower pixel count will translate into a less crisp image, but it would also provide other benefits ranging from improved battery life to lower costs. Expect OLED laptops to become more prevalent and affordable this year.

Samsung unveiled its first 15.6-inch 4K OLED laptop display at CES 2019, so there is a chance that the FHD models will be introduced at CES 2020 next week.
