After unveiling the redesigned Ballie robot early last year, Samsung didn't say much about it other than that it will launch in 2025. Earlier today, the company announced that Ballie will be launched in South Korea and the USA this summer. It also revealed that it will feature Google's Gemini AI assistant.
Samsung Ballie has Google Gemini AI assistant, unclear if it has Bixby
Samsung has revealed that Ballie will feature Google's Gemini AI assistant so that it can have deep, engaging, and natural conversations with you. It isn't clear if it features Samsung's own Bixby assistant. Besides fetching relevant information to you, Gemini can do several other tasks, including controling your smart home devices, greet people at your door, manage your calendar events and reminders, among other things.
Since Gemini is integrated deeply with other Google services (like Google Drive, Google Photos, and YouTube) and some third-party services (like Spotify and WhatsApp), it can do a lot more than Bixby, similar to what it can do on your Galaxy smartphones and tablets.
It can also suggest you things based on what it sees, hears, and feels. It has at least a couple of cameras and microphones, so it can take live input from the camera feed and hear your voice (and the surroundings) using the microphone. It can also fetch data from other devices and sensors in your home to suggest you actions based on those things. It isn't clear if it can do all the things phones (like the Galaxy S25) can do using Gemini's Astra feature.
Samsung claims that Ballie can suggest you outfits or actions to improve your sleep. If you ask Ballie, “Hey Ballie, how do I look?” it will respond with fashion suggestions such as trying on some accessories or changing the color of your pant to match your shirt. If you tell it “I am feeling tired,” it will suggest you things that can improve your energy levels and your sleep quality.
