Samsung boss Lee Jae-yong is on an important business trip to the USA
Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong met Amazon CEO Andy Jassy, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon this week in Silicon Valley. After holding such important meetings for two days, Lee completed his business trip. During this trip, Lee examined Samsung's global status and competitiveness in the current market.
During his trip, Lee sought cooperation with existing customers in the AI, foundry, home appliance, network, memory, and TV segments. The company is developing new products and technologies that will ensure a win-win situation for Samsung and its partners.
Meeting with Amazon CEO Andy Jassy
During his meeting with Andy Jassy at Amazon's headquarters in Seattle, Lee shared the market outlook for cloud computing and Generative AI. Amazon is the world's largest cloud services provider and one of Samsung's key business partners for memory chips.
Amazon is also cooperating with Samsung in content and TV segments. Both companies co-developed the HDR10+ technology, an open-source rival to Dolby Vision. Amazon Fire TV and Samsung's laptops, monitors, smartphones, tablets, and TVs feature HDR10+ support.
Meeting with Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg
Lee met Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg on June 11, 2024, at the latter's home in Palo Alto, California. Both discussed ways to cooperate in the information and communication technology (ICT) and software segment. They plan to work together in the AI, AR, and VR fields.
If you don't know already, Meta and Samsung are close partners, and their partnership is a decade old. Samsung's first VR headsets used Facebook's Quest platform. Mark Zuckerberg was on stage during the unveiling of the Galaxy S7 and Gear VR one day before the Mobile World Congress (MWC) in 2016.
When Zuckerberg met Samsung Chairman Lee in March 2024 during his visit to South Korea, he said, “Samsung holds an important position in the global economy as a foundry giant, so these aspects can be important points in cooperation with Samsung.”
In the image above, you can see Mark Zuckerberg holding the Galaxy S23 Ultra or the Galaxy S24 Ultra. This isn't the first time he is seen using a Samsung phone. During the unveiling of Meta AI, Mark displayed the company's AI assistant's capabilities on the Galaxy S23 Ultra.
Meeting with Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon
Lee met Qualcomm CEO Cristiano Amon in the US on June 10, 2024. During this meeting, they discussed improving cooperation in the semiconductor chip segment and next-generation communication chips.
Samsung sells millions of mobile devices each year equipped with Qualcomm's Snapdragon chips and Snapdragon-powered laptops and tablets. Last month, Samsung unveiled its first Snapdragon X Elite-powered laptop, the Galaxy Book 4 Edge. The South Korean firm hopes to bag an order from Qualcomm for its flagship chips.
