Three years ago, Samsung displayed its first assistive wearable robot, the GEMS Hip. The company had plans to launch it before the end of this year. However, it is being reported that launch plans have been delayed, and so has the final name of the device. The assistive robot will reportedly be launched early next year.
Samsung's first wearable assistive robot will be named Bot Fit
According to a report from the South Korean publication Financial News, it has been confirmed that Samsung will launch the Bot Fit assistive robot early next year. The company has already applied for the trademark for the term Bot Fit. It is the same assistive wearable robot that was earlier showcased as the GEMS Hip. The publication estimates that the Bot Fit could be launched at CES 2024 in early January next year. Samsung seems to have finished testing the Bot Fit and sent it to partners for demonstrations.
It is a medical walking assistance robot that is designed for the elderly or those with limited mobility. It has two modes: Aqua and Booster. The Booster mode is for those who have back or leg injuries and helps them walk better. The Aqua mode is a recreational mode that offers effects that are similar to walking on water. It can also be used for rehabilitation for people who have had injuries.
Bot Fit can be paired with Samsung smartphones, smartwatches, and earbuds
The Bot Fit can reportedly be paired with Samsung smartphones, smartwatches, and earbuds. It can be controlled through the paired phone or smartwatch, and it can record physical and workout information. When paired with wireless earbuds, it can offer walking guidance for efficient movement. Apparently, Samsung even sold the Bot Fit to some of its employees who were interested in using it.
AI and Robotics are the fields that Samsung Electronics chairman Lee Jae-yong has chosen as the future engines of growth for the company. The South Korean firm plans to invest KRW 240 trillion ($179 billion) in these fields by 2024.
