Samsung announced its Q1 2022 earnings today which were quite impressive, to say the least. The company hit record revenue and profit of $61.19 billion and $11.10 billion respectively. It has also highlighted how it intends to sustain this performance going forward.
It goes without saying that Samsung's existing foldable smartphones will get successors later this year. An important Samsung executive has also confirmed today that the company is busy with the development of its next foldable phones.
New foldables coming in the second half of 2022
During its Q1 2022 earnings call, VP of Samsung's mobile business Kim Sung-koo hinted at the upcoming foldable smartphones. “We are currently all hands on deck regarding preparing the new foldable model scheduled for launch in the second half,” he said.
He also added that Samsung is looking to make foldable smartphones a “main column next to the Galaxy S series within our business.” This goes to show just how serious Samsung is about foldable smartphones and how it views them as a growth opportunity for its business.
No other smartphone manufacturer has been as serious about foldable phones as Samsung. It made significant improvements to the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Galaxy Z Flip 3. The upcoming models are expected to be even better.
Whether Samsung ends up expanding the line remains to be seen. There have been rumors about a more affordable Galaxy Z Fold Lite model in the pipeline. However, nothing has materialized since then. Adding more models to the lineup may help Samsung achieve its ultimate objective with these devices.
