In an ambition to zoom past all the other tech giants in the healthcare race, Samsung Electronics is looking for options to develop noninvasive blood sugar monitors and continuous blood pressure checking. Samsung aims to introduce these health features in a wide range of its products, including smartwatches and the recently announced Galaxy Ring.

As noted by Samsung executive Hon Pak (via Bloomberg), Samsung Electronics is making an all-out effort to bring important healthcare metrics via sensors to its customers, right from the comfort of their homes. If these important sensors, such as the noninvasive blood sugar monitor or the continuous blood pressure monitor, are available to Samsung users right on their wrist or finger, this could help millions across the globe detect any health-related problems.

Samsung hasn't finalized the pricing for the Galaxy Ring

Health tracking has always been the key selling point of smartwatches from Samsung, Apple, and Google. While tracking heart rate, sleep, SpO2, stress, etc., is already available, Samsung also offers the option to check blood pressure and ECG on its Galaxy smartwatches, a feature that was recently officially made available for Galaxy Watch 4, Watch 5, and the Galaxy Watch 6 users in India.

Hon Pak, Samsung’s mobile digital health chief, said during a wide-ranging interview, “If we can do continuous blood pressure and glucose, we’re in a whole different ballgame. I think that’s where everyone is trying to get to. We’re putting significant investment toward that.” While Samsung is exploring new options and ways to develop blood sugar monitors, the actual timeline isn't known as of yet.

Apple who? Samsung is still king of the smartphone market

If there's one thing Samsung's good at, it's consistently beating Apple for the top spot in the global smartphone market, even in years where it sees tis overall market share drop nominally. That's precisely what happened last year, when Samsung's total market share decreased by 1% because of tough competition from Chinese OEMs. However, Samsung […]
