Samsung and its subsidiary Harman International have revealed a new automotive driver assistance solution at CES 2023. It's an upgraded version of the existing Ready Care technology. The latter consists of a camera and sensors that gather driver data regarding fatigue and vital signs and can provide alternative routes to lower the driver's stress levels.
The upgraded Ready Care solution revealed at CES 2023 can sense if the drivers feel drowsy by analyzing their eyelids. The system can respond with a red light flicker on the dashboard and an accompanying warning sound. The latest tech uses machine learning, AI, and neuroscience principles.
Samsung and Harman have yet to commercialize Ready Care — originally unveiled at Samsung Developer Conference 2022. However, Harman says it's in the final stages of bringing Ready Care to the market.
Ready Care, ready to be commercialized. And Samsung reveals flexible in-car displays
Harman is reportedly ready to bring Ready Care technology to the market. The Samsung subsidiary is in the final stages of negotiations with a leading carmaker, whose name has remained unmentioned. If they reach an agreement, there's a high probability that Ready Care will come to the market before the end of 2023. A Samsung Electronics official said that if the deal is struck, the technology jointly developed with Harman will “finally reach the commercialization phase.”
In addition to Ready Care, Samsung Display also revealed more in-care display solutions at CES 2023, some of which are based on flexible display technology. One display can switch between flat and curved form factors on the fly, and in autonomous driving mode, it can act as a large entertainment screen.
Samsung also revealed a round 13.4-inch display that fits into the curved dashboard of the MINI Cooper and other vehicles. Without revealing any specific brand names, Samsung Display said at CES 2023 that its circular in-car display will get used by an upcoming car sooner rather than later.
