Now here's something we weren't expecting. Multiple new benchmark entries for the Galaxy A55 on the Geekbench website have revealed that the mid-range device could have a variant with 12GB of RAM!
Samsung has always kept 12GB of RAM exclusive to select flagship phones, but it will be a first for a mid-range Samsung phone. In fact, the A55 will have more RAM than even the base Galaxy S24, which doesn't exactly come cheap, making this all the more impressive.
12GB RAM will go well with Samsung's first mid-range Exynos chip with AMD graphics
It's unclear why Samsung chose to put more RAM in a mid-range phone than one of its flagship devices, but it's a welcome addition. The 12 gigs of RAM will also go well with the Exynos 1480, which will be Samsung's first mid-range chip with AMD-powered graphics.
It should also help with UI smoothness, which has been an Achilles heel for Samsung's mid-range and budget phones for the longest time, and reduce stutter, especially when the device is pushed to its limits. Furthermore, it will reduce the dependence of the OS on virtual memory/the RAM Plus feature to keep background apps from being killed too quickly.
It will be interesting to see if Samsung will offer more storage on the Galaxy A55 to go along with the higher amount of random access memory. We are assuming Samsung will take things one step at a time and keep the storage upgrade for the next model.
We also cannot rule out the possibility that Samsung may not actually release the 12GB RAM variant, at least not in every market. It also may not be available from day one, as these benchmark entries are very recent and the Galaxy A55's official launch is not too far away.
