Following months of rumors and leaks, Samsung is finally ready to make the Galaxy A55 official. There have been many signs that the launch of the new mid-range phone is almost upon us, and we can now see it in the flesh thanks to images of what look like retail units in various colors.
The Galaxy A55 looks pretty similar to the Galaxy A54, which is to be expected as major design changes are simply not how Samsung does things these days. However, the A55 will have one key design upgrade: a metal frame instead of a plastic one that will work with the glass back to enhance the in-hand feel.
The A55 also has Samsung's new Key Island design language, which debuted with the Galaxy A15 and Galaxy A25 late last year and raises the frame where the volume and power buttons are located. The photos also reveal the black, blue, and white versions of the phone, though there will be at least one more color option when the phone goes on sale.
Under the hood is where things get more exciting. The Galaxy A55 will be powered by the Exynos 1480 chipset, which could be the most powerful chip ever seen on a mid-range Samsung smartphone, at least when it comes to gaming, thanks to a GPU based on AMD's RDNA2 graphics architecture.
For capturing photos and videos, the Galaxy A55 will feature a 50MP primary camera at the back, along with a 12MP ultra-wide camera, 5MP macro camera, and a 32MP front-facing camera. The battery will be a 5,000 mAh unit with support for 25W charging.
On the software front, the A55 should run Android 14 with One UI 6.1 out of the box, though it remains to be seen whether it will get some of the Galaxy S24's AI features or a promise of seven years of OS upgrades.
